Modern Woman’s Defense Against Breast Cancer

Knowing what you have to go up against decrease the chance of panicking in the most inopportune time.

As modern women, we are used to getting our way. We have customized almost every gadget we use to revolve around our lives. But what happens when something we didn’t fit into the equation becomes the top priority. What do you do when you cannot customize your life to fit in surviving breast cancer?

Getting a good doctor should always top your list. It is his job after all to get you well. Wrong, it is up to you how well things would go. The decisions that you have to make would shape your future and the disease’s progression. If you found out about this during its early stages, which can be cured by radiation therapy or chemotherapy then you are lucky. But if you are among those who caught their breast cancer late into their years or on its late stages, you have to make more critical and often dangerous decisions. But they are all aimed to keep you alive and to get you healthy again. But the risks are there. They are real.

Getting a mastectomy is an option that most women would choose as a last option. It can be a source of shame especially if the woman is quite young. But having reconstructive surgery can be an option in the future since the immediate concern for most if staying alive now. Even after a mastectomy, some patients would still need several rounds of chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Luckily, there are alternatives to the six week rounds that are usually recommended. Some would just last for half of that time.

Breast cancer like most cancers that are curable can still come back even with all the prayers and precautions. But the risks are lessened when a woman is aware of the needs of her body. Since she is taking in medication that would subdue her disease she should also make sure that she lives in surroundings that are slightly less polluted and stressful. It is believed that if her working schedule remains stressful and often at night times, her risks would be higher than someone with a day job. So there is a definite need to customize your life and your family’s life so that you remain healthy.

This kind of cancer can be difficult for a family to deal with since in most families, the mother is the center of activity. For a child, a mother with cancer is a very scary situation to be in. The child can feel helpless in this situation. This can add to a modern woman’s burden, seeing her child deal with the disease that she is barely dealing with. If the mother has a daughter, she would have to deal with answering fearful breast cancer questions from someone who barely has breasts. This can be a tricky situation if the mother is in pain. The pain is transferred to her family. In a way this is good for the patient but it has adverse effects if the family is not prepared for the pain.

But ultimately, it is her family that can pull her through her ordeal. It is in remembering who she lives for that she fights more to stay.
