Saving Daughters from their Mothers’ Fate

Having breast cancer is truly a trial. Imagine having survived it then relive everything through a family member. Then when they look at you for advice, you have to think past the pain that you had to endure and the sacrifices because you have to tell them, and they would believe you that they would survive it too.

Modern day medicine has made that promise much easier to keep but for most mothers having to see their daughters go through the stages of denial and anger then proceeding to fighting everyday to stay alive, it is a heart-wrenching process.

If you have a female relative especially a mother who had breast cancer however benign the breast tumors might have been, getting tested while you are still young is the best way to ensure that you don’t have breast cancer. There are several kinds of breast cancer so there are a few things that you need to eliminate. But the most common for some with a family history is a form of genetic mutation that needs to be checked before your risk level can be identified.

Because you already know that you are prone to having a specific kind of cancer then you should understand the other factors that would aggravate your dormant condition.

Take into consideration if you had your period early, or if you daughter, if you have one had her period ahead of everyone. Women who got their menstruation earlier than the rest have been considered as higher risks than others. If you had your child before the age of thirty then you don’t need to worry. Only those who had children after the age of thirty can add this to their list of risks. Another one would be age. The older a woman gets, the higher her risks of getting breast cancer. It is when the body gets to function less like a well-tuned machine, after all. Then you have to check your lifestyle not just these days but also in the past. Did you work mostly night shifts in the jobs that you had? If you still do, then the risks are still ongoing. The stress level and the diverted timeline of your work can increase the chances that you would get breast cancer, any kind of cancer for that matter.

Of course the risks are always there. There is just so much sacrifice that modern women have to endure. But there are also ways to prevent these risks from scaring us out of living our lives. Having awareness, not just in a personal level but also within your family and workplace would really help you lower your risks of getting breast cancer. Getting tested sooner also saves many lives. If you are at young forty, then you have to have a mammogram every year. If you want you can put this into the same day you get your yearly health examination so that you don’t have to make two trips to the doctor. Also changing your diet from unhealthy food to those that would give you loads of antioxidants and other cancer fighting nutrients would help a great deal. So that if you do have to face cancer, you can beat it too.
